The Superfruit

You may have heard the latest buzz word in nutrition lately: "Superfruit". But, what does it mean, and what's the best way to incorporate superfruits in your diet?

The superfruit is a naturally occurring fruit that packs both antioxidant (anti-aging and cell destruction) power with high density nutrition. Incorporating these types of fruits in your diet will give you your recommendation daily requirement of fruits, while providing you will valuable anti-oxidants that help in cell regeneration and preservation, which contributes to fighting off disease and premature aging.

There are a variety of fruits that have been deemed superfruits, so you may already be eating some of these. These include blueberries, cranberries, grapes, mangos, and pomegranates. Some lesser known fruits include acai, goji, mangosteen and noni. You may not have heard of these but many trendy restaurants and bars are beginning to incorporate them in entrees and cocktails to capitalize on the superfruit movement.

Other standard fruits, such as apples, bananas, oranges, and melons continue to be just as good for you as you've known them to be prior to the emergence of suprfruits. The bottom line is this: try to incorporate at least 3-5 servings of fruit in your diet every day. And stick to the real thing. Drinking a pomegranate martini doesn't count!
